The Global Project Engineering team is a group of highly skilled Engineers and Project Managers responsible for the design, planning, purchasing and configuration of production equipment and systems in Warner Bros. Discovery’s live Sports and News broadcast and production facilities, within the EMEA region. Supporting on content across WBD’s networks including TNT Sports, Eurosport, CNN.
Your New Role
The GPE Project Engineer will assist in the design, build, and creation of technical builds as well as provide technical expertise on new media project initiatives in the advancement of WBD’s media and production infrastructure. The role will involve a large amount of travel opportunities (around 50% of the role) and initial projects including designing and building a broadcast studio in Doha, helping to build out the wider EMEA team and taking extended international trips for CNN’s remote bureaus.
It will mainly involve hands-on work, with some additional project management and oversight responsibilities, and would be well suited to someone with a strong technical capability who potentially has some project management experience.
Your Role Accountabilities
- Part of the team responsible for the design and planning of new and upgraded production systems at WBD, including facility changes, equipment purchases, budget tracking and scheduling.
- Consult with Operations teams to gather requirements, conceptualize design, budget, and manage the deployment of new systems and/ or upgrades to existing systems.
- Collaborate with other Engineering groups to design, install, and commission new systems.
- Write and maintain engineering SOPs pertaining to the operations and maintenance of broadcast and production systems including but not limited to plant routing systems, sync and reference systems, distribution and standards conversion hardware, fiber and satellite transmit/receive systems, VOD production systems, and other production related equipment.
- Create, keep and maintain current technical documentation of facility, including CAD drawings, SOPs and User manuals. Also, to include templates for managing projects such as Master Equipment Lists (MELs), project scope documents and project schedule tracking.
- Assist team in tracking incoming equipment against purchase orders to confirm receipt and correctness.
- Evaluate new technology and make recommendations regarding equipment selection, software selection and testing with the Operations Department.
- Assist with setting up demos and training for new or potential equipment and software.
- Interface with vendors, clients and internal management teams.
- The ability to use monitoring tools (Service Now, Asset DB entry, Solarwinds, Splunk, SNMP, Ivanti Heat) working knowledge of NDIs and support ticket data entry and tracking.
- Provide status updates and reports to management for individual task and projects.
- Other job duties, responsibilities, and project assignments as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Television Production or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrable experience in Broadcast Project Engineering, Broadcast/ Production system design, Broadcast/ Production Project management.
- Comprehensive project design experience with a majority of the following: AutoCad 2018 or above, Microsoft Windows and Office, Microsoft Sharepoint, Microsoft Visio or MIRO, non-linear editing applications (Avid, Adobe, DaVinci Resolve).
- Thorough understanding of SD, HD, and UHD digital Video standards, as well as Digital Audio standards.
- Thorough understanding of Digital video encoding and decoding transport streams such as SRT, NDI, J2K and other streaming & compression protocols and standards.
- Understanding of NDI, Software Defined Video Networking and ST-2110 routing.
- Understanding of Cloud-based technologies and platforms such as AWS and AZURE.
- Ability to follow through on support and project requests in a timely manner, escalating to other members of the team when appropriate.
- Ability to create, read, and decipher system schematic drawings.
- Comfortable with lifting heavy equipment as needed (50 lbs.).
- Willing to regularly travel within the EMEA region.
Hybrid Working – This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
