The Supervisor, Global Field Engineering reports to the Director, Global Field Engineering and is responsible for the timely and professional support of a 24x7x365 broadcast environment. This role manages broadcast-related support calls, monitors the broadcast environment for quality and performance, and oversees Live Production Incident Management, request fulfilment processes and high-level project management and supervision of a group of technical support professionals. The role is split between the Old Street and Chiswick offices, with frequent travel to sports events to evaluate onsite live productions, consult with onsite customers, and identify execution efficiencies.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of over 10 staff in the Global Field Engineering Team, providing 24/7 broadcast and IT services to support live sports and news broadcasts at various locations.
- Oversee the evolution of team capabilities, including recruitment, onboarding, and delegation of responsibilities to adapt to changing workloads and technological complexities.
- Develop team members through training and development opportunities; conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to foster a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Collaborate with the Director to set strategy and department goals that reflect stakeholder priorities.
- Work with News & Sports Planning leadership and peers to develop deployment assignments for International Field Engineering, improve processes, and enhance resource efficiency.
- Implement new field technology and best practices to optimise remote executions in line with WBD global strategies.
- Ensure adoption of MFP (REMI) kits and workflow changes with minimal disruption to ongoing field operations; coordinate with operational and technical teams to implement new workstreams.
- Ensure seamless transition of On-Air or Critical unresolved issues, project activities, and status updates of the broadcasting environment between shifts.
- Manage day-to-day Incident and Request Fulfilment processes to meet Service Level Targets for the broadcast environment.
- Periodically audit processes for compliance and effectiveness, working with Process Owners to recommend improvements.
- Ensure field gear readiness, with emphasis on upcoming key field production needs.
- Collaborate with Sports & News teams to align scheduling and resource availability with commercial objectives and revenue opportunities.
- Travel (typically UK, occasionally international) is required, with the ability to lift and move equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and team management skills to motivate, develop, and inspire the team.
- Proactively troubleshoot, solve problems, and avoid issues; maintain excellent communication to represent the department globally.
- Ability to prioritize and work autonomously under pressure to meet tight deadlines; strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
- Experience with budget and expense management.
