CNN is seeking a Senior Business Editor to join its EMEA headquarters in London and take a leading role in helping to shape the world’s biggest and most important stories at the intersection of business, economy and current affairs. This is a role for an ambitious and creative digital-first business journalist with outstanding news judgment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for breaking news and distinctive enterprise reporting that differentiates CNN in a competitive market.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Leading the business news agenda during EMEA hours and overseeing editorial in all formats and on all of CNN’s platforms, with a focus on business, markets, tech, media and economy coverage, as well as an eye for emerging regional trends.
  • Setting up the morning for CNN’s US audience, advancing overnight stories and ensuring that the essential Business content greets US readers and subscribers as they wake up.
  • Commissioning, framing, editing and writing editorial content for all of CNN’s platforms, including breaking news, analysis and distinctive enterprise journalism; working across formats including digital text, video and visuals.
  • Working closely with correspondents, editors and stakeholders across the world on multi-region and multi-platform projects.
  • Ensuring all journalism produced adheres to CNN standards and integrity.
  • Managing at least one business reporter on the EMEA newsdesk.
  • Working as part of a global 24/7 digital-first cross-platform team, providing a key editorial link between CNN’s APAC and US operations.
  • Working occasional weekends and evenings.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of business news editing and/or writing experience for leading digital-first news outlets, with a proven track record in high-pressure, breaking news environments.
  • Superior news judgment with the ability to think in headlines and frame complex business stories for a global audience, specifically the US morning market.
  • Experience conceiving and producing distinctive enterprise journalism, identifying unique reporting opportunities and/or investigative works.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility and a desire to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Exceptional writing skills, editing skills, news judgment and an obsession with precision.
  • A strong desire to experiment with storytelling formats and think creatively about how we serve our multiplatform audience.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills with a demonstrable track record of executing detailed digital-first coverage plans.
  • Perfect grasp of written and spoken English.

Hybrid Working: This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
