Your New Role... The Audio Description Writer is responsible for authoring high‑quality English Audio Description (AD) scripts across a variety of content types, including scripted episodic television, unscripted and factual programming, feature‑length content, and ad hoc accessibility projects. This role focuses on producing clear, accurate, and well‑timed descriptions that enable audiences who are blind or partially sighted people to fully understand visual storytelling elements. The Audio Description Writer works within established Audio Description guidelines and workflows and collaborates closely with editors and senior writers to deliver production‑ready accessibility assets. While theatrical Audio Description experience is not required, the Audio Description Writer may contribute to initial or first‑pass AD drafts on feature‑length or higher‑complexity titles as part of professional development, under editorial guidance.
Key Responsibilities...
- Write English Audio Description scripts for scripted episodic, unscripted/factual, feature‑length, and ad hoc content.
- Describe essential visual information clearly, accurately, and representatively to support narrative comprehension and intent.
- Apply established Audio Description guidelines, accessibility standards, and formatting rules consistently.
- Ensure scripts meet quality expectations for grammar, clarity, tone, pacing, and formatting.
- Revise scripts based on editorial feedback to reach final delivery quality.
- Contribute to initial or first‑pass Audio Description drafts for complex or feature‑length titles under senior guidance.
- Manage assigned workload and meet delivery deadlines using internal tracking systems.
- Handle sensitive, confidential, and pre‑release materials securely and appropriately.
INNOVATION & DEVELOPMENT
- Participate in testing tools, templates, and workflow enhancements.
- Provide feedback on processes and usability from an execution perspective.
- Develop Audio Description skills through training, peer review, and mentorship.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Participate in team meetings and content reviews.
- Coordinate with editors and managers on priorities and schedules.
- Support internal documentation, quality checks, or reporting as required.
Qualifications & Experience...
- Hands-on experience in Audio Description, accessibility writing, captioning/subtitling with accessibility exposure, or related media writing fields.
- Experience delivering final or near‑final accessibility or scripted media deliverables.
- Excellent written English skills, including grammar, tone, and clarity.
- Strong attention to detail and editorial accuracy.
- Ability to follow detailed style guidelines and accessibility specifications.
- Ability to manage priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced production environment.
- Ability to learn and use relevant tools, systems, and workflows.
Not Required but preferred experience:
- Exposure to feature‑length or theatrical content.
- Accreditation from accessibility training or university.
Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
