Your New Role
As the MCR Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the Master Control Room (MCR) operations. Your mission? To ensure a reliable and efficient service in our dynamic 24/7 broadcast environment. You’ll support high-profile live outputs by coordinating people, processes, and technology, all while maintaining the highest operational standards. Your Role Accountabilities

  • Supervise MCR shift operations in a 24/7 environment.
  • Manage the MCR team, focusing on wellbeing, development, culture, and performance.
  • Create an engaging MCR environment during high-profile events.
  • Coordinate staff rosters, ensuring the right skills are available for each event.
  • Proactively oversee daily MCR activities, including fault investigation and resolution.
  • Ensure the team is fully trained and prepared for all scheduled events.
  • Facilitate effective delegation and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Represent the MCR in internal and external meetings.
  • Contribute to planning future operational requirements and events.
  • Collaborate with Production, T&O departments, and third-party providers for successful live content delivery.
  • Attend operational, planning, and project meetings to influence decision-making.
  • Help define and maintain MCR technical workflows and systems.
  • Document new workflows and ensure appropriate training is provided.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and escalate faults as necessary.
  • Write and compile detailed reports on MCR issues or outages.
  • Undertake additional duties to support MCR operations.
  • Provide day-to-day management for a team of 10+ direct reports.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience, including recruitment and team culture development.
  • Experience in staff training and maintaining/updating SOPs.
  • Thorough understanding of MCR systems, equipment, and broadcast delivery models.
  • Ability to identify project impacts and propose mitigating solutions.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting technical issues and developing effective workarounds.
  • Operational knowledge of MCR technology and workflows, including SDI and IP video/audio routing.
  • Fundamental understanding of IT networking infrastructure.
  • Experience with broadcast control systems, ideally BNCS and Nevion Video IPath.
  • Familiarity with various video standards, including UHD.
  • Understanding of video and audio timing principles.
  • Operational knowledge of tools for diagnosing video/audio issues.
  • Experience with professional satellite contribution equipment.
  • Familiarity with contribution standards like J2K, H264, and HEVC.
  • Understanding of operational requirements for Ingest, Playout, and Production facilities.
  • Experience in creating operational processes in collaboration with teams.

Working Conditions
The MCR operates 24/7/365. This role is shift-based, requiring a 40-hour work week that includes weekends and public holidays.

Onsite Working
This role is advertised as Onsite, meaning all working hours will be carried out at the workplace. Please note that WBD reserves the right to adjust this working agreement as necessary for business needs.
