Your New Role

CNN Digital is seeking a Photo Editor to help shape visual storytelling across platforms for breaking news, enterprise and feature stories. This role involves sourcing and vetting compelling photography under tight deadlines and collaborating with colleagues across the newsroom to drive engagement while upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced breaking news environment and play a key role in delivering impactful visual journalism across international coverage. Please note: The shift pattern for this role will include regular weekends.

Your Role Accountabilities

  • Coordinate photo coverage for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and work closely with the CNN Digital International team in London.
  • Research and produce daily and long-term projects in support of all CNN Digital.
  • Select the best images for CNN stories, the homepage and live coverage of breaking news and events.
  • Research and produce photo essays and galleries for breaking news and feature stories.
  • Write captions and headlines for photo essays and galleries and produce packages for online consumption.
  • Produce photo loops, photo splits and screen grabs from live satellite feeds.
  • Act as quality control on graphic or potentially sensitive images, conduct thorough vetting of third-party content and collaborate with CNN’s Rights and Clearances team to ensure appropriate licensing.
  • Flexibility to work weekends is required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrable photo editing experience in a newsroom.
  • Strong news background with an understanding of politics, business, international news, entertainment and sports.
  • Strong news judgement with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced news environment.
  • Experience with content management systems, Adobe Photoshop and PhotoMechanic.
  • Knowledge of AP style and an interest in the photojournalism industry and its trends.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, SEO, web analytics, digital news platforms, photo agencies and additional languages would be advantageous.

Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
