Welcome to Warner Bros. Discovery. Our Team is building media technology and IT systems that meet world class standards. The Technology & Operations team builds, implements and maintains the business systems and technology that are critical for delivering WBD’s products.
Your New Role... With a focus on networking, international satellite & fibre methodology and compression & distribution technologies reporting to the Director of Distribution Engineering & Operations, the role provides technical leadership and ownership for distribution engineering systems and services.
Your Role Accountabilities…
- Manage, maintain and configure compression technology systems located at diverse locations.
- Work with the team to develop new broadcast systems and maintain and develop existing systems.
- Liaise with various internal project teams to deliver on future projects and services, and to manage changes to existing services.
- Provide second line support to the first line DMCC support team.
- Perform maintenance and diagnostic support for failing elements within transmission streams.
- Work closely with the team in the management of third party suppliers and their implementation of projects and upgrades on WBD's behalf.
- Track system equipment repairs and returns.
- Create and update system documentation.
- Design and propose fully costed technical solutions and implement these solutions.
- Represent Distribution Engineering in cross-functional forums, project meetings, and external industry engagements.
- Act as the technical lead for major distribution, compression, networking, and broadcast infrastructure projects.
- Lead root cause analysis of complex or recurring service issues and drive long-term corrective actions.
- Support career development and succession planning within the engineering team.
- Evaluate emerging broadcast, IP, cloud, and distribution technologies and provide recommendations to management.
- Provide on call out of hours support as part of a departmental support rota.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience…
- Educated to degree level, BSc or BEng or equivalent experience.
- Proven track record and demonstrable multi-year experience in broadcast technology and engineering.
- A calm and authoritative demeanour with an ability to remain focused and make accurate decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- A strategic mindset with a tenacious approach to problem solving.
- Ability to demonstrate strong leadership when required.
- A collaborative and inclusive management style.
- In-depth knowledge of television distribution systems, platforms, and standards.
- Working knowledge of digital baseband signals, SDI, HD-SDI and ASI for video and PCM, Dolby D and E and its variants for audio signals.
- Knowledge of and experience with SMPTE 2110.
- Working experience with Television Distribution Systems – fibre and satellite based encoding.
- Provide input for budget planning.
- Providing statistics on workload and deliverables for the Distribution Engineering EMEA team.
