We're looking for a Paralegal to join our growing Regulatory, Compliance, and Investigations (RCI) team in Birmingham. This is a great opportunity to work alongside and support our RCI Partners while gaining exposure to key stakeholders and regulators. Our RCI team is part of the Commercial Department at Ward Hadaway, and we advise clients across all sectors including health, public sector, corporations and individuals. The team provides advisory services on economic crime compliance, regulatory issues (such as Health and Safety), and the investigation and defence of clients across all sectors that Ward Hadaway operates in. This is predominantly a support role and regular attendance at court may be required.

What will I be doing

  • Supporting the RCI team in the provision of advice to clients, assisting with a caseload of complex cases on contentious and non-contentious matters.
  • Supporting the business development activities of the RCI team, including writing articles and blogs, and helping with presentations and seminars.
  • Supporting the Team's work in health & safety, inquests, environment, food and fire regulations, both in Birmingham and nationally.
  • Developing an understanding of regulatory law and practice.
  • Assisting with the management of a case load of files.
  • Assisting with case preparation, evidence handling and trial support.
  • Attending client conferences, taking witness statements, attending Court instructing experts.
  • Attending administrative applications and hearings at court, including travel, and accompanying counsel where necessary.

You'll have

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and good all-round IT skills.
  • The ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines, and manage your time effectively.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • The ability to adapt your style, be proactive, and effectively solve problems.
  • Previous legal work experience within inquests, criminal defence or criminal practice and process would be advantageous but not essential.
