The Role
The role supports the rollout of the National Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) strategy by ensuring that best-practice standards are developed, embedded and maintained on site in full compliance with statutory requirements and company policy. It involves working closely with the HSE Manager to provide accurate, timely and legally sound business-focused advice to line managers across all aspects of health, safety and environmental management. A key part of the role is coaching managers and employees to build a culture of responsibility and accountability, reinforcing procedures that contribute to the siteβs continuous improvement programme. Collaboration with site operational trainers is essential to develop and maintain an effective training plan that identifies and meets the HSE training needs of all personnel, ensuring alignment with the HSE Management System. The role also includes providing relevant monitoring data and trend analysis to the HSE Manager to support reporting against site HSE KPIs, as well as understanding, monitoring and maintaining the performance of both the bakery and depot against the requirements of the Warburtons HSE Management System. Acting as a business partner, the role drives standards across the site, ensuring all teams understand their responsibilities and raising awareness of emerging HSE issues to strengthen overall site performance.
Essential Ingredients
- Experience of working in a manufacturing or distribution environment
- Demonstrable interest in Health, Safety and Environment
- General knowledge of all aspects of Health, Safety and Environment
- Good knowledge of Health Safety and Environment legislation
- NEBOSH Cert and IEMA preferable (but not a requirement)
- Willing to attain NEBOSH Cert (candidates without this qualification must be willing to study towards it)
- Technician Membership of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) (Not essential but a bonus if you have this)
- Knowledge of ISO14001, OHSAS18001 management systems would be an advantage
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written skills
- Excellent IT skills with PowerPoint & Excel
- Excellent relationship builder- building rapport at all levels
- Promote safety as an enabler not a blocker
