The Recipe

Do to an internal move, we have a vacancy for an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor to join our Bolton based HSE team.

Safety is our number one priority and as part of the HSE team you will need an engaging approach to coach and influence colleagues across the business to understand their accountability and responsibility for HSE.

Key to the role will also be the ability to work cross-functionally to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels to support the HSE agenda and to implement continuous improvement. With your technical expertise and experience you will also need to provide timely, accurate and business-led advice and guidance to colleagues across Manufacturing and Distribution.

No day is the same as an HSE professional, and the bakery and depots are fast paced. You’ll need to prioritise your workload which will typically include supporting the business with risk assessments, ensuring investigations establish root cause and that effective corrective actions are put in place, supporting the training team, completing inspections and audits, monitoring performance data and generating reports.

This role will occasionally require travel to our Squires Gate depot in Blackpool to provide support as needed.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Health, Safety and Environment role, ideally in an FMCG organisation
  • General knowledge of all aspects of Health, Safety and Environment
  • Good knowledge of Health Safety and Environment legislation
  • Minimum qualification NEBOSH certificate and / or IEMA Foundation certificate
  • Willing to attain NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
  • Technician Membership of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
  • Knowledge of ISO14001, OHSAS18001 management systems would be an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written skills.
  • Excellent relationship builder- building rapport at all levels.
  • Promote safety as an enabler not a blocker

The Role

  • Support the roll out of the National Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) strategy, ensuring that HSE best practice standards are developed and maintained on site that are compliant with statutory and company policy.
  • Provide support to the HSE Manager in developing accurate, timely, legally correct and sensible business led advice to line managers on site in all aspects of the Health, Safety and the Environment.
  • Coach managers and employees to support the promotion of a culture of responsibility and accountability through the delivery of procedures which will contribute to the site’s continuous improvement programme.
  • Work with the site operational trainers, support the development and maintenance of the site training plan to ensure the training needs of all personnel are identified to ensure compliance with the HSE Management System.
  • To provide relevant monitoring data and trending to the HSE Manager for reporting on progress against relevant site HSE KPIs.
  • Understand, monitor and maintain the site’s (bakery and depot) performance against the requirements of the Warburton’s HSE management system.
  • Business Partner to drive standards, ensuring the whole site team understand their role in HSE. Promote and raise awareness, at all levels across the site, of the impact of emerging HSE issues on the business to benefit site performance
