The Recipe
Implement the Unbeatable Quality Strategy to ensure Warburtons manufactures and distributes products to the required standard and in accordance with the Warburtons Quality Management System (QMS).
Act as the food/feed safety and hygiene lead at sites, working with Manufacturing and Distribution teams to optimize processes using proactive activities, evidence-led data, continuous improvement techniques, and measured by company KPIs.
Role requires 5 days a week onsite at our Bristol Bakery and Distribution depot located at Severn Beach, near Bristol, easily accessible from the M5 and Severn Bridge (toll-free from Wales).
Bristol Bakery is home to our latest innovation, The Bagel, and produces over 160,000 units of bakery products daily, employing nearly 500 colleagues from over 21 nationalities, operating 24/7, 363 days a year. The site also functions as a Driver Training Centre and Distribution hub.
Key Accountabilities and Measures
- Lead and enable site activities to deliver unbeatable quality products in collaboration with site and Centre Quality colleagues.
- Act as the food/feed safety and hygiene subject matter expert to achieve and improve compliance standards.
- Identify opportunities for improvements and develop plans to achieve them within agreed timescales.
- Manage food/feed safety and hygiene standards within the Quality Management System to ensure standards are met.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of national and local strategies as part of the Manufacturing Leadership Team.
- Manage internal and external audits, including regulatory interventions, in collaboration with the Technical Manager.
- Manage suppliers impacting hygiene standards.
- Ensure all employees understand the importance of food/feed safety and hygiene.
- Lead, motivate, coach, and develop the Compliance team to meet goals and targets.
Essential Ingredients
- Experience managing food/feed safety and hygiene in a food company, preferably within FMCG sector.
- Science or food technology qualifications or similar background.
- Lead Auditor / Auditor qualifications in quality management systems.
- Level 4 HACCP & Food Safety qualifications.
- Good knowledge of food microbiology.
- Passed Level 2 Certificate in Pest Management.
- Trained in COSHH & IOSH Managing Safely.
- Proven track record in implementing quality systems and standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of HSE, food/feed safety legislation, and hygiene systems.
- Understanding of cleaning methodologies and chemicals.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques.
Desirable
- Understanding of CIP systems, risks, and opportunities for optimization.
- Knowledge of SAP ERP applications.
- Understanding of bakery processes, plant, product, ingredient functionality, and process technology.
