Overview

In this HSE Manager role, you will translate the national HSE strategy into local action within a large, 24/7 food manufacturing and distribution environment. You will lead, coach and develop a small HSE team, delivering compliant, practical guidance to line managers and driving continuous improvement. You will own the HSE management system performance, lead engagement across shifts and depots, and balance risk reduction with cost-conscious mitigation. This is a visible, impact-driven role within a family-owned bakery shaping safety culture at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the national HSE strategy locally and ensure compliance with legal and company requirements
  • Provide timely, practical, legally robust HSE advice to line managers
  • Coach and develop HSE capability across bakery and depot sites
  • Lead continuous improvement from risk assessments and audits to action closure
  • Maintain and enhance the HSE management systems aligned with Warburtons’ framework
  • Drive engagement initiatives to improve HSE culture from shopfloor to senior leadership
  • Manage local HSE budget with focus on high-impact risk reduction
  • Line-manage and develop a small team of HSE Advisors

Key requirements

  • 2+ years in a dedicated HSE role in FMCG/manufacturing or distribution
  • NEBOSH Certificate (minimum)
  • NEBOSH Diploma strongly preferred or working towards
  • IOSH Chartered (CMIOSH) or working towards
  • IEMA Environmental Foundation or Associate certificates for permitted sites/Environmental focus
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 (or OHSAS 18001 heritage)
  • Clear communication and influencing skills with stakeholders at all levels
