Hours: 34.5 hours per week
A varied role in a small business with big ambitions
Are you someone who loves getting the details right, enjoys working with technology and takes pride in keeping things organised? Do you like variety, solving problems and finding better ways of doing things?
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
We're WantDontWant, a small, dynamic furniture brokerage with a reputation much bigger than our size might suggest!
We help businesses buy and sell quality office furniture, giving furniture a new lease of life and helping our clients make more sustainable choices.
We're passionate about providing a fantastic experience for our clients, many of whom return to us again and again. We're equally passionate about creating a working environment where everyone has the opportunity to contribute, develop their strengths and find their own niche.
We're now looking for a friendly, organised and digitally confident person to join our team, supporting the operational side of our business and helping keep things running smoothly.
This is an office-based role, working alongside our team at our Clerkenwell office throughout the 34.5-hour working week.
What will you be doing?
This is a varied, hands-on role combining digital administration, information management and communication with colleagues, suppliers and customers.
A significant part of your role will involve creating and managing the furniture listings on our website. It's detailed work that requires accuracy, technical confidence and a good eye for how information and images are presented.
You'll also support the wider business, helping to keep information organised, deadlines on track and processes running effectively.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Creating and updating furniture listings on our website, including product descriptions, specifications, quantities and photographs
- Selecting, editing and optimising images, and uploading information through our digital systems
- Gathering and checking product information to ensure listings are accurate, complete and presented professionally
- Accompanying colleagues on occasional site visits to assess, measure and record furniture, and preparing inventories afterwards
- Keeping track of listing deadlines, following up on outstanding information and managing updates when listings change or come to an end
Keeping things organised
- Maintaining accurate records, spreadsheets, contact details and internal documentation
- Organising product information, supplier brochures, photographs and digital files so they're easy for colleagues to find and use
- Monitoring deadlines, keeping track of outstanding tasks and following things through to completion
- Maintaining supplier documentation, including insurance and health and safety records
- Supporting the day-to-day administration that helps the business operate efficiently
Working with people across the business
- Liaising with furniture dealers, manufacturers and suppliers to gather information and maintain positive working relationships
- Communicating clearly with colleagues to ensure everyone has the information they need
- Responding to telephone enquiries and directing callers to the right person
- Working closely with our Operations Director to understand priorities and manage workloads
- Helping identify problems, find practical solutions and improve the way we work
As you become familiar with the business, there will be opportunities to develop your knowledge, contribute to improvements in our systems and take on additional operational responsibilities.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone who combines strong organisational and digital skills with a friendly, practical approach.
You'll be someone who:
- Is comfortable and confident using technology, learning new systems and working with detailed digital information
- Has excellent attention to detail and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work
- Is organised, manages their time effectively and can prioritise competing demands
- Communicates clearly and confidently, both in writing and over the phone
- Enjoys building relationships and working collaboratively with colleagues and external contacts
- Takes initiative, thinks ahead and follows tasks through to completion
- Can switch between focused, detailed work and responding to colleagues or callers when needed
- Understands how their work contributes to the wider business
- Enjoys solving problems, spotting opportunities for improvement and finding practical solutions
- Knows when to ask questions or seek support rather than making assumptions
Above all, we're looking for someone who's dependable, adaptable and happy to be part of a small team where everyone makes a difference.
Your technical skills
- You'll need to be confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook and Teams, and comfortable managing files, images and information across different digital systems.
- Experience with website content management, image editing software such as Photoshop, product databases or similar systems would be an advantage.
- We're also interested in people who are curious about how technology, including AI tools, can help them work more efficiently.
You don't need previous experience in the furniture industry. What matters more is your confidence with technology, your ability to learn and your willingness to get involved.
What's in it for you?
We're a small team, and we want everyone to enjoy being part of it.
Alongside a salary of Β£28,000-Β£32,000, we offer:
- Company pension
- Annual leave entitlement of 23 days and bank holidays
- Christmas closure without using your annual leave allowance
- Thursday team breakfasts
- A friendly office dog, Mitzi
- An office with a roof terrace
- A supportive, collaborative environment where your ideas and contributions matter
You'll be joining a business where you can get involved in many different aspects of what we do, build your knowledge and make a real difference.
Everyone is welcome
At WantDontWant, we believe that different perspectives, experiences and ways of thinking make us stronger. We're committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with respect, feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and recognise that the right person might not tick every box in a job description. If you're excited about the role and feel you could make a positive contribution, we'd love to hear from you.
Our office is on the third floor of a building without a lift. We want our recruitment process to be as accessible as possible and are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments during recruitment and employment.
Our recruitment process
We want our recruitment process to be straightforward, welcoming and an opportunity for us to get to know each other.
Here's what you can expect:
- Initial conversation: Selected candidates will be invited to an online interview to explore their experience, skills and what they're looking for in their next role.
- Meet the team: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to our Clerkenwell office to meet us, learn more about the role and complete a short practical exercise reflecting the type of work involved. In some cases, there may be an additional interview.
- Final decision: We'll be in touch following the interviews to discuss next steps.
We're hoping to welcome our new team member before Christmas, so an earlier start date would be an advantage. However, we understand that notice periods vary and would still encourage you to apply if the role feels like a good fit.
