This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of Wantage CE Primary School. You will be responsible for managing the front office and administrative function, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the service. Working closely with the Office Administrator and wider leadership team, you will take a proactive approach to managing your workload and responding to the needs of a busy school environment. You will act as the first point of contact for pupils, parents, staff, and visitors, providing a professional, calm, and welcoming presence at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing reception duties and being the main point of contact for all enquiries.
  • Handling telephone calls, emails, and face‑to‑face interactions with professionalism and sensitivity.
  • Maintaining accurate records using systems such as Bromcom and Parent Pay.
  • Providing comprehensive administrative and organisational support.
  • Ensuring that daily operations run efficiently through effective planning and prioritisation.
  • Supporting staff and leadership with general administrative tasks.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a capable and self‑motivated individual who is comfortable taking initiative and managing a wide range of responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Essential skills and experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong administrative and organisational abilities
  • Confidence in managing tasks independently and prioritising workload effectively
  • Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and solution‑focused in a fast‑paced setting
  • Good ICT skills and experience using a range of systems

Additional requirements

  • Numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2 or GCSE grades A‑C / 9‑4
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships
  • A flexible and resilient approach when working with young people who may need additional support
  • Experience using Bromcom (desirable)

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting pupils and contributing positively to a provision that works with young people who may present complex needs. A calm, patient, and consistent approach is essential.
