We're looking for a Senior Project Engineer (internal title: Senior Technical Consultant) to join our Projects team and become one of our trusted technical advisors to customers.
This is a senior, hands-on role combining project delivery, technical consultancy, solution design and customer engagement.
You'll take ownership of complex technical projects from discovery and planning through to implementation and handover, working directly with IT and business leaders to modernise their environments, solve challenging technical problems and get greater value from their technology investments.
Importantly, this role is also a clear pathway towards becoming a Technical Architect at Wanstor.
You'll gain exposure to solution design, technical discovery, HLDs and LLDs, customer workshops and increasingly complex projects, building the technical and consulting skills needed to progress into architecture.
Alongside project delivery, you'll be one of our senior technical specialists, providing expertise on complex escalations, mentoring engineers and helping raise technical standards across the business.
It's an ideal opportunity for an experienced engineer who still loves being hands-on but wants to take the next step towards technical architecture, with greater ownership of solutions, projects and customer technical strategy.
What You'll Do
- Deliver infrastructure, cloud and modern workplace projects across a diverse customer base.
- Design and implement secure, scalable IT solutions that align with customers' business objectives.
- Build trusted relationships with customers, becoming a strategic technical advisor rather than simply a support engineer.
- Proactively review customer environments, identifying opportunities to improve performance, resilience, security and user experience.
- Lead cloud adoption and infrastructure modernisation projects, including Microsoft 365, Azure and hybrid environments.
- Ensure customer environments remain secure and aligned with Cyber Essentials best practices.
- Act as the final technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and support issues.
- Take ownership of major technical incidents and change requests through to successful completion.
- Mentor and support Service Desk engineers, helping to develop the wider technical capability of the business.
- Work collaboratively across Professional Services, Service Delivery and Account Management to deliver outstanding customer outcomes.
- What You'll Need
- Extensive hands-on experience across Microsoft technologies, including: Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Intune, Microsoft Defender, Active Directory, Exchange Online
- Strong experience working with: Windows Server, Hyper-V, VMware, SQL, AWS, Hybrid infrastructure environments and Backup and Disaster Recovery Solutions.
- Good understanding of networking technologies: LAN/WAN, VPN, Firewall, Switching and Routing, Wireless networking, Co-location and Hybrid environments
- Experience of diagnostic information gathering and analytical thinking, the ability to understand the architecture of operations and undertake root cause analysis.
- The ability to undertake research consulting a range of data sources and critical thinking skills to provide detailed and accurate analysis.
An understanding of current security concepts and frameworks relating to cyber essentials and ISO2701
- Accurate and effective communication using a variety of techniques including verbal and written work.
