Help shape the future of one of the UK's most respected travel media brands. Wanderlust, the UK's leading consumer travel magazine, has been championing authentic, meaningful and responsible travel for over 30 years. As we enter an exciting phase of digital and global growth, we're expanding our video output and looking for a Head of Video to lead it.

About the role

This is a hands-on role for someone who's as comfortable behind a camera on assignment as they are at an edit desk or planning a content calendar. You'll shape how Wanderlust shows up on screen, translating the spirit and values that have defined the magazine for over thirty years into video that inspires people to travel meaningfully. The right person is an all-rounder: a skilled camera operator and videographer who also has the editorial instinct to know what makes a Wanderlust story, and the production sense to keep a high-volume output running week after week.

Key responsibilities

  • On assignment
    • Regular international travel on assignment to capture standard video, 360 video and stills photography across our destinations, for tourism board partners and travel brands.
    • Operating as a confident, self-sufficient one-person crew in the field, often in remote or challenging conditions.
    • Translating Wanderlust's values of immersive, authentic and responsible travel into compelling visual storytelling.
  • Editorial and social video
    • Producing first-person, on-the-road video optimised for social media, using footage supplied by our editors and community of writers.
    • Creating studio and office-based video with the editorial team, covering travel tips, destination inspiration and expert insight.
    • Delivering a steady, high-volume output, edited and published multiple times a week across our channels.
    • Working closely with the editorial team so video sits alongside, and amplifies, what we publish in print and online.
    • Capturing our events and stage appearances, turning live moments into ready-made content.
  • Editing and post-production
    • Owning the full edit, from rushes to finished cut, including grading, sound and titling.
    • Maintaining a consistent visual identity and brand standard across everything we put out.
    • Building efficient post-production workflows that support a fast turnaround without dropping quality.
  • Strategy and team
    • Helping shape Wanderlust's video strategy as the channel grows.
    • Owning platform strategy, balancing short-form (Reels, YouTube Shorts) with longer-form YouTube content, with a clear sense of what each platform rewards.
    • Tracking channel growth and analytics, and feeding what you learn back into the content plan.
    • Managing the camera, audio and lighting kit and budget, and a freelance roster of shooters and editors as output scales beyond one person.
    • Working with the wider team to plan content, set priorities and develop new formats.
    • Mentoring and supporting colleagues, helping writers and editors become more confident on camera.

Who we're looking for

  • A genuine passion for travel, especially in the style of Wanderlust, is essential.
  • Proven experience as a camera operator and videographer, with a strong portfolio.
  • Confident shooting standard video, 360 video and stills photography.
  • Excellent editing skills across the full post-production process.
  • An editorial eye: you understand what makes a story worth telling, not just how to film it.
  • The ability to work independently on the road and collaboratively in the office.
  • The stamina and organisation to deliver consistently to a weekly publishing schedule.
  • Experience producing for social platforms and growing an audience.
  • Knowledge of 360 and immersive formats beyond the basics.
  • Experience with branded or commercial video.
  • A second language or experience filming across different cultures.

What success looks like in the first year

You’ll establish Wanderlust’s video identity, build a repeatable production workflow, grow regular short-form output across social channels, develop our YouTube presence, and create a scalable model for destination, partner and editorial video.
