Reporting to the Board, the Head of Learner Services will have full responsibility and accountability for all aspects of learning delivery and will ensure that individual learners receive the best possible education, training, and development necessary to enhance their lives and employment prospects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum design and delivery: Leading the creation and implementation of personalised learning and development programs, tailored to the specific needs of individual learners.
  • Assessment and evaluation: Designing and implementing effective assessment methods, monitoring learner progress, and using resultant data to improve outcomes consistent with defined assessment ambitions.
  • Quality and compliance: Ensuring development programs meet regulatory standards and internal quality benchmarks and that each learner has their own personalised development passport constructed in cooperation with the learner and their parent/carers together with involved partner agencies.
  • Team leadership: Managing and developing a team of support staff and employment coaches, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and person‑centred support.
  • Partnership and collaboration: Building relationships with stakeholders, including families, other charities, and potential employers, to create a supportive network for learners.
  • Safeguarding and wellbeing: Prioritising the safety and wellbeing of learners and staff, adhering to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Recruitment: Develop learner numbers and mix in line with our strategic learning development objectives. Manage learner lifecycles to retain current learners and oversee end of learner contract arrangements.

Essential Skills and Qualities

  • Expertise in adult learning and disabilities: A strong understanding of adult learning principles and the specific challenges and strengths of individuals with learning difficulties.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills: The ability to communicate clearly and empathetically, build rapport, and foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Strategic thinking and planning: The ability to design and implement effective learning and development strategies that align with organisational goals and meet the needs of learners.
  • Leadership and management skills: Proven experience in managing teams, delegating tasks, motivating staff, and fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Adaptability and problem‑solving: The ability to respond to changing needs and challenges, troubleshoot issues, and find creative solutions to enhance the learning experience.
  • Passion for social impact: A genuine commitment to empowering individuals with learning difficulties and improving their life chances.
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject with evidence of additional sector training and knowledge.

  • Degree level or professional equivalent in teaching/assessment/coaching.
  • Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disabilities and Autism.
