In line with NHS England (NHSE) guidance, this post is open exclusively to newly qualified GP (within two years of Certificate of Completion of Training) who have not previously held a substantive GP post. This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and forward-thinking GP Practice. The successful candidate will be engaged to provide comprehensive, high-quality primary care services, addressing a broad spectrum of health needs. In due course the option to take up a Clinical Lead Role will also be available pending agreement of interest and scope between the post-holder and the Practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Clinical Care
  • Provide high-quality, patient-centred clinical care through face-to-face consultations, telephone and video appointments, and home visits where appropriate.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed, and long-term conditions.
  • Make autonomous, evidence-based clinical decisions for patients who are self-referred or referred by other healthcare professionals or external agencies.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness, promoting early intervention and prevention.
  • Develop, implement, and review individualised care plans in line with current clinical guidelines and best practice.
  • Provide health promotion, lifestyle advice, and preventative care tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Refer patients appropriately to secondary care, community services, and other healthcare professionals when clinically indicated.
  • Prescribing & Meds Management
    • Issue acute and repeat prescriptions using the electronic prescribing system.
    • Review, check, and authorise repeat prescriptions in a timely manner, responding to associated patient and pharmacy queries.
    • Prescribe safely and cost-effectively in line with the practice formulary, national guidance, and local prescribing policies.
  • Governance & Quality
    • Maintain clear, accurate, and contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with professional, legal, and organisational standards.
    • Ensure accurate clinical coding and data recording.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and service projects.

    Salary & Funding

    This role is offered on a sessional basis. A standard clinical session is 4 hours structured as:

    • 3 Hour Clinic of 16 patients (14x10min appts and 2x20min appts)
    • 1 Hour of Clinical Administration

    Full-Time Equivalent Salary: £115,000 per annum for a 40-hour week equivalent to £11,500 per session (annualised). Preferred Working Pattern: £92,000 per annum gross for 32 hours per week.

    Person Specification

    • Qualifications
    • Newly qualified GP within two years of CCT, with no previous or current substantive GP post.
    • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Experience
    • Experience of working within the NHS.
    • Experience of working with the general public and within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
    • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to use initiative, sound judgement, and effective problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to obtain, interpret, and analyse complex clinical information.
    • Ability to recognise clinical priorities and deviations from normal patterns, escalating appropriately.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to produce timely, accurate, and informative clinical documentation and reports.
    • Demonstrates accountability and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
    • Interest in quality improvement, service development, and reflective practice.
