About the Opportunity
Our client is a leading aerospace manufacturing business producing high-precision aircraft control components, including servo valves used within complex hydraulic control systems. This is a senior Product Engineering role focused on supporting production, assembly and test operations for specialist aerospace hardware. The environment is low-volume, high-precision and tolerance-critical, requiring strong first-principles engineering judgement, deep mechanical and hydraulic knowledge, and the ability to solve complex technical issues at root cause. This is not a design role. The focus is on supporting products as they are built and tested, resolving product, test and manufacturing issues, and driving preventative action to improve quality, reliability and production performance.
Key Requirements
- You will be an experienced Senior Product Engineer, Product Support Engineer, Manufacturing Support Engineer, Hydraulics Engineer or similar, with strong experience in complex mechanical, hydraulic or aerospace manufacturing environments.
- 10+ years relevant engineering experience, ideally within aerospace, defence, hydraulics or precision manufacturing.
- Strong first-principles engineering knowledge and the ability to understand how components interact within complex systems.
- Deep hydraulics knowledge, ideally involving servo valves, actuators, aircraft control systems or fluid control products.
- Experience investigating pressure, performance, product or test failure issues.
- Strong root cause analysis capability, with a focus on preventative action rather than short-term fixes.
- Experience supporting assembly, test, production and product integrity investigations.
- Broad understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electronic testing principles.
- Knowledge of PFMEA, control plans, process flow diagrams and MSA.
- Confident communication skills, with the ability to provide technical direction to peers, junior engineers and wider teams.
- Experience with non-conformance, PRB and MRB activity would be highly beneficial.
- Proficiency with tools such as Minitab, Microsoft Project and Excel.
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Collaborative, hands-on and comfortable taking ownership of complex technical issues.
- Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance may be required.
Role & Responsibilities
As Senior Product Engineer - Operations Support, you will act as a senior technical focal point for complex production, assembly and test issues across a portfolio of aerospace product ranges. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting production teams as high-precision aerospace components are built, assembled and tested.
- Investigating complex assembly, hydraulic performance and test failures.
- Applying structured root cause analysis to identify issues and prevent recurrence.
- Analysing production and test data to improve quality, yield, cost and efficiency.
- Developing and approving assembly standards, test procedures and technical documentation.
- Supporting product and process changes to improve manufacturing robustness.
- Supporting non-conformance, PRB and MRB activities across UK and international sites.
- Providing technical justification for product integrity investigations.
- Liaising with production, quality, supply chain, test teams, suppliers and customers.
- Specifying and supporting new test equipment with sustainment and test teams.
- Providing technical guidance to peers and junior engineers.
