About the Opportunity
Our client is a fast-growing UK-based energy services business delivering LED lighting, solar PV, EV charging and wider net zero solutions across public sector, education and commercial markets. With a strong market position and a compelling funded / Energy-as-a-Service model, they are now looking to appoint a technically credible, commercially driven Business Development Manager to build early-stage pipeline, engage customers consultatively, and convert opportunities into high-value, multi-solution projects. This role suits a proactive, hunter-style BDM with strong technical understanding and a solution-led sales approach. You will join a lean, growth-focused environment with real scope to make an impact and, for the right person, potential Director-level progression.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience selling technical solutions across energy, renewables, infrastructure, building services or similar markets
- Strong knowledge of at least one of the following: solar PV, EV charging, lighting / energy efficiency, or wider decarbonisation solutions
- A strong track record of opening doors, generating pipeline and winning new business
- Experience engaging customers early in the buying cycle, before projects are fully defined
- A consultative, commercially astute sales style with the ability to shape multi-solution opportunities
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with credibility at senior stakeholder level
- Experience working with or alongside bid / tender processes
- The ability to manage multiple live opportunities in a structured, organised way
- Comfort operating in a lean, growth-focused, scale-up environment
Desirable:
- Experience selling into or working with public sector frameworks
- Exposure to funded / financed solution models
- Understanding of infrastructure, grid or planning considerations
- An existing network across energy, construction, property or related markets
- Previous leadership or mentoring experience
Role & Responsibilities
As Technical Business Development Manager, you will play a key role in driving growth across both public and private sector markets. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and managing new business opportunities across public and private sector clients
- Building pipeline earlier in the sales cycle by engaging customers around energy cost, infrastructure and decarbonisation challenges
- Delivering solution-led sales across multiple technologies, including LED, solar, EV charging, O&M and related energy solutions
- Converting single-service discussions into broader multi-technology project opportunities
- Building and managing key account relationships, identifying cross-sell and expansion opportunities
- Supporting bid and tender activity where required
- Working closely with internal technical, design and delivery teams to shape commercially strong, feasible proposals
- Presenting proposals and solutions to senior stakeholders and decision-makers
- Maintaining accurate CRM pipeline management and opportunity tracking
- Monitoring market trends, regulation and competitor activity to strengthen the commercial approach
- Representing the business at relevant industry events, meetings and networking opportunities
