Facilities Assistant Salary: £28,511 - £30,161 per annum plus excellent benefits Location: Walsall, West Midlands Contract: Full Time, Permanent, 37 hours per week Closing Date: 11th August 2025 Interview Date: 22nd August 2025 Are you a hands-on problem-solver with a passion for maintaining safe, efficient, and welcoming workspaces? Do you enjoy variety in your day and take pride in delivering top-quality service? If so, whg is looking for someone like you to join our Facilities team as a Facilities Assistant. As a Facilities Assistant, you’ll play a key role in delivering a proactive and reliable facilities management service across all whg commercial properties. From performing daily building checks and maintenance tasks to supporting health and safety inspections and contractor coordination – no two days will be the same. You’ll be our go-to person for caretaking, minor repairs, equipment inspections, post room support, meeting room setups, and more. You’ll also be a key contact for colleagues and contractors, ensuring our working environments are safe, functional, and fit for purpose. Main job responsibilities: * Carrying out daily operational checks at Hatherton Street and other commercial sites. * Conducting preventative maintenance and regular equipment inspections in line with health and safety regulations. * Responding quickly to reactive repairs and escalating where needed. * Coordinating and supervising contractors and trade colleagues on-site. * Assisting with furniture moves, equipment deliveries, and general caretaking duties. * Supporting fire safety checks, meeting room setups, vehicle checks, and asset register updates. * Using digital systems to log and update all facilities-related tasks. We\'re looking for someone who has: * Either a City & Guilds/NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent in a Trades based qualification such as Electrics or Carpentry (or be willing to obtain after successful completion of probationary period) * A full UK Drivers Licence, preferably with experience of driving a transit van up to 3.5 tonnes. * An understanding of good H&S practice. * Basic experience of painting and decorating and carpentry. * Experience of problem solving for all aspects of maintenance, caretaking and cleaning. * Experience of basic electrical and plumbing fault finding and repair work. * Experience of general maintenance and office furniture assembly. * Experience of keeping buildings clean and tidy, including day-to-day maintenance tasks. * Experience of working collaboratively within a multi-skilled team. * Sound communication skills with the ability to inform colleagues accurately of ongoing work. * The ability to use work tools & test equipment. * A positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
