Location: Walsall, West Midlands (minimum of 2 days in office with court attendance as required)
Contract: Full Time, Permanent, 37 hours per week
We are looking for a newly qualified Housing Solicitor to join our Legal team and help deliver high-quality legal services that support our communities and protect our homes. This is an exciting opportunity to build your career in social housing law, working on meaningful cases that directly impact customers, neighbourhoods and communities.
You will support the delivery of legal services to whg by providing advice and representation across a range of housing litigation matters. Working closely with the Housing Litigation Manager and wider Legal team, you will manage your own caseload while contributing to a collaborative, supportive environment.
- Managing a varied caseload of housing management matters including disrepair, rent possession, injunctions, tenancy succession and neighbourhood issues
- Preparing cases for court, drafting pleadings, witness statements and legal documentation
- Advising colleagues on legal risks, responsibilities and options relating to social housing
- Ensuring compliance with legislation, court procedures, Civil Procedure Rules and professional standards
- Supporting knowledge sharing across the organisation, including informal guidance and updates on changes in law
Requirements:
- Newly qualified as a solicitor with a valid Practising Certificate with at least a minimum of one strong training seat in housing management or litigation
- A keen interest in social housing law, including an understanding of relevant legislation and case law
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to colleagues
- A collaborative attitude and be proactive in building strong working relationships
- Experience in advising on and assisting with litigation, including casework and Court appearances
- Experience in court advocacy and case preparation
- Good legal drafting skills
- Proficiency using legal databases and MS Office suite
