Position Overview
We are seeking to appoint a full‑time Specialty Doctor to work in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology to commence as soon as possible for maternity leave cover.
Key Responsibilities
- Work at middle‑grade level and participate in the full‑shift middle‑grade on‑call rota with a 1:10 pattern.
- Provide second on‑call for the delivery suite and gynaecological emergencies.
- Attend theatres, antenatal and gynaecology clinics.
- Support instrumental deliveries, caesarean sections and surgical management of miscarriages at a basic level.
- Carry out any additional duties as required by the Trust.
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Basic medical degree (eg. MBBS/MBChB or equivalent).
MRCOG Part 1 and minimum 3 years middle‑grade experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the NHS. - MRCOG Part 2 & 3 desirable; full MRCOG (or equivalent) preferable.
- Experience on a 1:10 on‑call rota at middle‑grade level advantageous.
- Proficiency in instrumental deliveries, caesarean sections and basic surgical miscarriage management.
- English language proficiency for written and spoken communication meeting post requirements.

About the Trust
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services, including a 13‑bedbed inpatient facility, Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU), early pregnancy assessment service, and a Gynaecology outpatients unit with specialty clinics. The Maternity Wing features maternity triage, delivery suite, antenatal and postnatal wards, a neonatal unit, and modern equipment including 10 ultrasound sessions and CTG monitoring.
Facilities
- Ward 23 – 13‑bed inpatient facility.
- Gynaecology Assessment Unit with ultrasound scan machine for emergency patients.
- Early Pregnancy Assessment service (Monday–Friday).
- Gynaecology theatre suite – two operating theatres with anaesthetic and recovery areas; capable of minimal access surgery, open surgery, urogynaecological procedures and hysteroscopic procedures.
- Gynaecology outpatients unit – specialty clinics (ambulatory, colposcopy, one‑stop, urodynamics) and general outpatient clinics.
- Maternity Wing – triage unit, delivery suite, antenatal and postnatal wards, neonatal unit, and specialised delivery rooms including high‑risk and twin delivery rooms.
