Overview

We are seeking to recruit Band 6 Emergency Care Assessment Practitioner in Walsall Healthcare’s Emergency Department with opportunities for those with either Nurse or Paramedic background and who have previous Emergency Care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support the clinical team in carrying out early initial assessments and support patient pathways through ED, specialising primarily in Triage and Rapid Assessment and Treatment Streams of ED.
  • Be developed and supported as part of a new clinical framework established by the ED Matron and ACP Lead, with induction period and clearly defined role descriptor to support progression in this newly defined role.
  • Be a key figure in the leadership of the Rapid Assessment and Treatment Area of ED, providing clinical support to a team of clinicians to determine excellent patient care standards.
  • Contribute to the development of options for a New Emergency Department Redevelopment project and work within the team to provide solutions for new, innovative ways of working.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, initiative, drive and a willingness to learn to expand knowledge and skills and contribute to achieving CQC Outstanding status.

Departmental Context

  • We are committed to high-quality care within a demanding service, with a nursing team that is proactive and has additional clinical skills to deliver individualised patient care for the full range of presenting conditions.
  • The department has support from an ED Professional Development Nurse and access to a broad learning environment, including courses such as ILS, PILS, TILS, ALS, EPLS, TNCC and in-house plaster application depending on experience.
  • Post-registration courses via Wolverhampton University in Emergency Care of the Child and mentorship are available. We encourage department link nurses and are developing departmental champions to promote specialist support within the team.
  • We aim to recruit new clinicians who will work within a Multi-Disciplinary Team to aid audits and service developments.
  • In 2019 our department moved from CQC Rating “Requires Improving” to “Good”; we are now seeking candidates to help move toward “Outstanding.”

Qualifications

  • Band 6 level for Emergency Care Assessment Practitioner.
  • Background in Nursing or Paramedicine with previous Emergency Care experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, initiative and willingness to learn.
