Walsall Youth Justice Service (YJS) is a multi-agency partnership working with children aged 10–18, their families and victims of crime. Responsibilities

About the Role

This is an important leadership role within Walsall Youth Justice Service. As a Team Manager, you will provide supportive, visible leadership to a multi-disciplinary team, helping practitioners to deliver high quality, effective work with children and families. You will play a key role in shaping practice, ensuring strong oversight of risk, safeguarding and public protection, while also creating an environment where staff feel valued, supported and able to do their best work.

Alongside this, you will work closely with partners across police, probation, health and education, helping to ensure children receive a coordinated and responsive service that reflects their needs and lived experiences.

The role involves:

  • Leading and supporting a multi-disciplinary team to deliver effective youth justice services
  • Ensuring safe, proportionate and child-centred responses to risk, safeguarding and offending behaviour
  • Promoting high-quality assessment, planning and intervention in line with legislation and national standards
  • Supporting a culture of learning, reflection and continuous improvement, including quality assurance and audit activity
  • Contributing to efforts to reduce remands and custody, improve educational outcomes and address disproportionality
  • Ensuring children, families and victims are meaningfully involved in service delivery and development
  • Working collaboratively with partners to improve outcomes and strengthen multi-agency responses

Qualifications

You will hold a relevant professional qualification at honours degree level, such as: Social Work (BA/MA/CQSW/DipSW), Probation qualification or a relevant degree (e.g. Youth Justice, Criminology). You will also hold, or be willing to complete within 12 months, the Youth Justice Effective Practice Certificate (PCEP).
