We are looking to appoint a conscientious, resourceful, hands‑on, and dedicated Security Coordinator to help deliver the security operations of the venue and ensure the safety of visitors, the building, and exhibits.

The New Art Gallery Walsall is one of the leading visual arts venues in the West Midlands. Situated in the heart of Walsall town centre, it offers a dynamic programme of contemporary art exhibitions, collections displays, education events, an artist studio, library, café, and shop.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coordination to the security operations of the Gallery, ensuring the care, safety, and security of the premises and people who use it.
  • Work closely with the Gallery Management team in maintaining robust and reliable security support and quality customer service.
  • Coordinate the upkeep of the security team rota to ensure consistent service support as the venue requires.
  • Work proactively to support Gallery operations, events, and general safety, with a positive problem‑solving approach.
  • Guide best practice and the development of the security team through continuous improvement and support training needs.
  • Promote the safe running of the venue during opening hours by monitoring CCTV, patrolling the building, screening contractors, and supporting health and safety.
  • Act as a key holder – opening and locking down the site, operating alarm systems, and being on‑call to attend out‑of‑hours when required.

Qualifications

To be successful, you will have a solid understanding of the security and safeguarding issues associated with a public building, experience in coordinating staff and developing best practices within a team, and a customer‑focussed background. You should understand health and safety requirements and demonstrate strong communication skills. A team player who supports others and earns the best from them is essential. You must hold current SIA licences in door supervision and public surveillance. A genuine interest in museums and galleries is also necessary, as is an understanding of what is required to keep a busy visitor attraction robust and dependable.

Benefits

  • 28 days annual leave entitlement (increasing to 33 after 5 years)
  • Flexible work scheme – flex‑time, full or part time, job sharing usually available.
  • Access to the L&G pension scheme.
  • Training and development opportunities.
  • Gym membership discounts.
  • Car leasing schemes.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
