The Public Health Development Manager will be a member of the dynamic Public Health team. You will provide leadership and advocacy for health and wellbeing and support the development and implementation of policy and practice to reduce inequalities across Walsall. You will be required to work with staff, organisations, and community groups to build public health capacity across Walsall whilst targeting support to those in greatest need.
The post holder will be primarily responsible for managing Walsallâs allocation of the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) Local Stop Smoking Services and Support Grant. This funding supports national governmentâs commitment to create a smoke-free generation alongside the Tobacco and Vapes Bill. It will also contribute to the delivery of Walsallâs Tobacco Control Strategy (2023 to 2027).
The Local Stop Smoking Services and Support Grant will be used to enhance Walsallâs existing stop smoking services, expand new pathways and initiatives, develop and deliver relevant training and education programmes and roll out of public awareness campaigns.
The successful applicant will understand wider smoking cessation systems. They will be responsible for system development through collaborations with a range of partners (e.g. NHS, Community and Voluntary Sector) and streamlining of referrals routes. They will enhance support through increasing the breadth and capacity of smoking cessation services and increasing provision of pharmacotherapies (e.g. Varenicline). The post holder will manage the budget and co-ordinate any reporting returns associated with the Local Stop Smoking Services and Support Grant programme.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience of working at a strategic level, developing system wide health and wellbeing policy and leading significant and successful external funding programmes.
The postholder will be expected to work in a matrix fashion, maintaining close links with staff in other teams and organisations who are working on related outcomes. You will bring generic public health skills, competencies and knowledge that allow you to cross cover the work of other team members or pick up new areas of work where necessary. There is a strong commitment to workforce development for each member of the team.
