We are seeking an enthusiastic Dietitian with an interest in paediatrics to join our team of 15 dietitians, nurses and admin who work across the acute and community setting. If successful, you will be responsible for dietetic input into our children’s wards and carry out paediatric dietetic outpatient clinics. We are a friendly department offering excellent support for personal development and an active role in student training.
Main Duties
- Provide a nutrition and dietetic service to paediatric patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including 1:1 and group sessions.
- Support children referred for growth faltering, allergies, restricted eating, coeliac disease and care in special schools for complex feeding difficulties.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide a nutrition and dietetic service to paediatric patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Provide dietetic input into general paediatric clinics and special school clinics for children with complex feeding difficulties.
- Plan and prioritise own workload as an autonomous practitioner.
- Collect and analyse relevant data and plan and recommend dietetic care within the caseload.
- Translate and communicate information about disease states and diet to patients and carers in an understandable and empowering way, using counselling, motivational and negotiation skills.
- Ensure communication of patient management to all relevant health professionals and carers.
- Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, liaising with other professionals and attending meetings and case conferences.
- Advise hospital catering services on the provision of special diets and menu planning.
- Maintain the service to meet department standards in accordance with available evidence.
- Undertake additional training as required to meet the needs of the post.
- Have an active involvement in student training.
- Deliver services flexibly with regard to working hours and locations.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- BSc or MSc Dietetics or equivalent qualification.
- Health Professions Council Registration.
Desirable Qualifications
- BDA Paediatric Module.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
- Evidence of post-registration dietetic work, preferably with paediatric experience in the acute setting.
- Ability to work within teams.
- Aware of clinical governance and the ability to use it in practice.
Desirable Knowledge and Experience
- Experience of training Dietetic Students.
- Experience of running patient group sessions.
Essential Competencies
- Knowledge of nutritional needs of paediatric patients such as faltering growth, allergy, enteral feeding, coeliac disease, ARFID.
