We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapy Assistants to join our Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) Service. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside Occupational Therapists and Social Care colleagues to support adults across Walsall to maximise their independence, build on their strengths and achieve the outcomes that matter most to them.

About the Role

As an Occupational Therapy Assistant within the PEI Service, you will work closely with Occupational Therapists and other professionals to support individuals to remain as independent as possible in their own homes. You will:

  • Work directly with individuals to identify opportunities to maximise independence and wellbeing.
  • Support people to achieve personal goals and outcomes through strengths-based interventions.
  • Assess for and arrange low-level equipment where appropriate.
  • Assist with the implementation and review of Occupational Therapy recommendations.
  • Signpost and connect individuals to community resources and support networks.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to reviews to ensure people receive the right support at the right time.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, carers and partner organisations.

This is a varied and rewarding role requiring excellent communication skills, a person-centred approach and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an allocated caseload of adults with a range of needs including physical disabilities, sensory impairment, mental ill health and learning disabilities.
  • Support individuals to maximise their independence, wellbeing and achievement of personal outcomes through strengths-based interventions.
  • Complete assessments for low-level equipment, assistive technology and adaptations in line with delegated responsibilities.
  • Participate in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Clinic rota, undertaking assessments and providing advice, information and support to individuals in line with service procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers, colleagues and partner agencies to identify appropriate solutions and support networks.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in accordance with organisational policies and professional standards.
  • Promote prevention, early intervention and independence, reducing reliance on long-term support services wherever appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with adults within a health, social care or community setting.
  • An interest in Occupational Therapy and willingness to undertake relevant training and development for the Occupational Therapy Assistant role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, families, carers and professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
  • Ability and willingness to travel across the borough as required by the role.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours when required, in accordance with TOIL and flexi-time arrangements.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and information in accurate spoken English.
