Occupational Therapy Opportunities in Walsall

1. Localities Team – Optimal Handed Care Project

As part of our Localities Teams, you will manage a varied caseload across Walsall, supporting adults within the community.

A key focus of this role is our Optimal Handed Care Project, a key service improvement initiative aiming to promote independence while ensuring safe and proportionate care.

Your role will include:

  • Completing strengths-based occupational therapy assessments in homes and community settings
  • Undertaking detailed moving and handling assessments
  • Reviewing existing double-handed care packages
  • Identifying opportunities for safe Optimal/Proportionate Handed Care
  • Recommending equipment, techniques, and adaptations to support independence
  • Working collaboratively with care providers, families, and professionals
  • Supporting safe, dignified, and person-centred care delivery

This is an exciting opportunity to influence practice at a system level and help shape the future of care provision in Walsall.

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist, ideally with a minimum of two years’ post-qualifying experience, with experience in moving and handling, particularly in double-handed care reviews, single-handed care, and risk enablement.

2. Enablement Team – Occupational Therapist Role

The Community Enablement Team is a specialist, therapy-led service committed to supporting individuals to live independently and thrive within their communities. The service works with adults with learning disabilities, individuals experiencing mental health challenges that impact daily life, people with neurodiverse needs, and young people transitioning into adulthood who require additional support to develop essential independent living skills.

Working in a collaborative, person-centred and strengths-based way, the team empowers individuals to build confidence and develop practical skills such as budgeting, cooking, and managing their home environment. By focusing on achieving meaningful, outcome-based goals, reducing reliance on long-term care, and promoting strong community connections, the service plays a vital role in enabling people to achieve sustainable independence, improve their wellbeing, and reach their personal aspirations.

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist who brings post-qualifying experience working with adults with learning disabilities, mental health needs and/or individuals transitioning into adulthood. This experience is essential to ensure a strong understanding of the needs of people accessing the service and to support the delivery of high-quality, effective, and person-centred interventions.

3. Prevention and Early Intervention Team – Occupational Therapist Role

The Occupational Therapy role within the Prevention & Early Intervention Team is focused on supporting adults with physical disabilities that impact on their functional ability. The service is dedicated to promoting independence, reducing risk (including falls), and preventing escalation to more intensive interventions such as formal care packages, hospital admission, or further functional decline. As an Occupational Therapist, you will manage a varied and complex caseload, working with individuals who have diverse needs and circumstances. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, strengths-based assessments and maintaining clear, timely, and accurate documentation in line with professional standards and organisational requirements.

The role includes assessing for and providing minor adaptations and equipment, as well as recommending specialist equipment and facilitating major adaptations through Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs). You will also complete manual handling assessments and provide expert advice to ensure safe and effective support arrangements.

In addition, you will contribute to housing-related assessments, including rehousing reports, and ensure individuals are appropriately signposted to relevant services and community resources. A strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and the Care Act is essential to ensure that all interventions are lawful, proportionate, and centred on the person’s wellbeing.

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist, ideally with a minimum of two years’ post-qualifying experience, who is proactive, motivated, and committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred outcomes. You will be a strong team player, working collaboratively with colleagues and partners, contributing positively to the team culture, and supporting individuals to maximise their independence and achieve their personal goals.

What We Are Looking For

We ask that applicants:

  • Hold a degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Have knowledge of relevant legislation including the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Are committed to strengths-based and outcome-focused practice
  • Are experienced Occupational Therapists, ideally with a minimum of two years’ post-qualifying experience
