You will be responsible for assisting the clinician in the day-to-day running of the surgery working under the supervision of the Senior Dental Nurse. Workload includes preparing the clinical area, assisting with treatments, educating patients and maintaining a safe and clean environment. You will also play a crucial role in maintaining records and ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic.
- Ensure high standards of infection control including risk management within the team.
- Monitor standards of cleaning and report to the appropriate manager.
- Preparation of the clinic areas including instruments and materials used during both Orthodontic and Surgical procedures.
- Preparing patients for such procedures, including patients with complex medical histories, and assisting in the supervision of patients during and after procedure. This includes giving post operative instructions and advice to patients regarding their treatment.
- After appropriate training, assessment of patient prior to IV sedation including the monitoring of blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulses and any medical emergencies that take place.
- Maintaining general care of all equipment, including the knowledge of assembling and usage of specialist equipment appropriate to the post holder.
- Ensuring the availability of x-rays, models, lab work, blood and histology reports appropriate to the patient.
- Ensure that the surgery is welcoming and prepared for the type of patient and treatment planned.
- Provide chair-side assistance to the clinician to include treating special care patients with learning and/or physical disabilities, patients with complex medical conditions, diagnosed Mental Health conditions, anxious children and adults, acting under the supervision and direction of the clinician.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.
A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
