This is an exciting opportunity for a paediatric nurse or qualified nurse with paediatric experience who is innovative, motivated and creative to join the Healthy Child Programme 0-19 service (Health Visiting and School Nursing).

The postholder will

  • lead the service delivery to promote continence and manage incontinence of children and young people 0-19 years, working as part of the wider multidisciplinary team to advise and support, treat and signpost children, young people and their families in the management of continence.
  • have the specialist skills, knowledge and experience to assess children\’s continence needs, plan, implement and monitor care.
  • provide specialist advice to parents/carers, members of the School Nursing and Health Visiting service and other professionals.

The post holder will Use their specialist knowledge of continence management, be responsible for developing, leading, planning and delivering a continence service for children and their families.

The post holder will use specialist skills, carry out assessment of children\’s continence needs, analysis and interpret complex information to identify appropriate specialist programmes of care/interventions and evaluates clinical care.

Main duties of the job

Communicates highly sensitive information in an empathetic and reassuring manner, adapting communication appropriately to meet the needs of children / young people, their parents or guardians, including those with special educational needs and disability.

Provide specialist consultation to HCP 0-19 staff and other professionals which supports the care of children with continence difficulties, including supporting the development of specialist care plans for children in education.

Refer children and young people to other specialists and agencies including Children Community Nurses, Acute and Community Paediatricians.

To act as coordinator and key worker for delegated children and families with continence issues and to delegate work as appropriate to other members of the HCP 01-9 service.

Plans provision of care for children and young people including clinics and health education. Co-ordinate and support staff to deliver this provision.

To work as part of HCP 0-19 team using a person-centred approach which includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for children aged 0-25 years who have disabilities and/or complex needs.

  • Paediatric Nurse or qualified nurse with paediatric continence experience with substantial & demonstrable experience of working at a Band 5 level
