Walsall Council is looking for an experienced Senior Operations Manager to join the Street Scene team. This is an important leadership role with responsibility for frontline environmental services that make a visible difference across the borough. You will lead service delivery across key operational areas including waste management, fleet, grounds maintenance and street cleansing, helping to ensure services are safe, efficient, reliable and customer‑focused. This is a varied and demanding role in a fast‑paced operational setting. You will oversee day‑to‑day operations, make sure resources are deployed effectively and maintain high standards across the service. You will also play a key role in improving performance, driving continuous improvement and making sure services deliver real value for residents and communities.

Key Responsibilities

As Senior Operations Manager, you will lead the day‑to‑day delivery of environmental services across Street Scene, managing frontline teams and ensuring work is planned and delivered effectively. You will oversee the use and maintenance of fleet, plant, equipment and PPE, co‑ordinate daily schedules and collection routes, and respond to service issues, enquiries and complaints in a timely and professional way. You will also work closely with residents, elected members, internal teams and other stakeholders, while promoting safe working practices and using service data and performance information to maintain standards and drive improvement.

You will be a confident and capable manager with significant experience of leading operational teams and managing performance within a frontline service. You will have strong communication, organisational and leadership skills, along with the ability to motivate, support and develop staff at all levels. You will also bring a clear commitment to customer service, value for money, health and safety, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 5 or equivalent practical experience in an environmental discipline
  • An IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification

This role requires flexibility to work in line with service needs, including weekends.
