Assistant Principal - Quality

Executive Leadership Opportunity

Walsall College is continuing to develop its leadership capacity as it delivers its strategic ambitions and builds on its existing strengths. As part of this next phase of development, the College is appointing three senior leaders to its Executive Leadership Team: a Vice Principal - Curriculum, an Assistant Principal - Skills, Business Growth & Partnerships and an Assistant Principal - Quality.

About the role

This is an opportunity to shape how Walsall College understands, develops and improves quality, using evidence, insight and constructive challenge to drive meaningful improvement and better outcomes for learners, while providing strategic leadership for EDIB.

The Assistant Principal will provide strategic leadership for the College’s approach to quality improvement, ensuring that high-quality education, strong learner outcomes and continuous improvement are embedded across the organisation.

This is a role focused on developing and improving quality, not simply assuring it. The postholder will lead a coherent, evidence-informed approach to quality improvement, using performance data, learner and stakeholder insight, professional practice and external benchmarks to identify priorities and drive meaningful improvement.

Working across the College, the Assistant Principal will ensure that quality processes provide clear insight into performance and lead to action. The role will strengthen approaches to self-assessment, quality review, teaching, learning and assessment, performance monitoring and improvement planning, while promoting innovation, reflective practice and the sharing of effective practice.

The Assistant Principal will also be the College lead for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB), using data and insight to identify inequalities and barriers to participation, achievement and progression and ensuring that EDIB is embedded within curriculum, learner experience and quality improvement.

About you

You will bring:

  • substantial senior leadership experience in further education or a comparable education environment
  • a strong track record of leading quality improvement and organisational improvement
  • the ability to use data, evidence and insight to identify priorities and drive measurable improvement
  • strong knowledge of teaching, learning, assessment and quality improvement approaches
  • the credibility to provide constructive challenge while building ownership for improvement
  • a clear commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging and learner success
