Build Your Career Where Engineering Meets Scotland’s Coastline
At Wallace Stone, we have been delivering award-winning civil engineering solutions since 1973, specialising in marine infrastructure, coastal engineering and bridges across Scotland.
We work on projects ranging from harbours, piers, ferry terminals and marinas to coastal protection schemes, bridges and other critical infrastructure for both public and private sector clients.
As our workload continues to grow, we are looking for a Graduate or Early Career Civil Engineer to join our Glasgow office and become part of our experienced and supportive team.
This role offers far more than a typical graduate engineering position.
From your first day, you’ll gain exposure to design, surveys, inspections, project delivery and construction support, helping to shape infrastructure that serves communities across Scotland’s coastline and islands.
Your new role
You’ll join a highly experienced and established team delivering world class and award winning maritime and coastal infrastructure.
Our clients range from small community ventures, local authorities, private developers and large commercial port operators.
As an engineer at Wallace Stone, you will support the design and analysis if civil and structural works in the marine and coastal environment.
Typical projects include the development, rehabilitation, and protection of port and harbour structures such as quay walls, jetties, piers, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, fendering systems, linkspan supports, and scour protection.
Your responsibilities will include
- Assisting with the design and analysis of marine and civil engineering infrastructure.
- Preparation and review of engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings and specifications.
- Undertake site inspections, surveys and condition assessments.
- Support project delivery from concept design through to construction.
- Collaborating with clients, contractors, local authorities and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and CDM Regulations.
- Developing technical knowledge of marine structures, coastal protection works, bridges and related infrastructure.
What we’re Looking for
- A good degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, preferably MEng with Merit (2:1) or above
- Initiative and enthusiasm, and enjoyment of working in a dynamic team
- A good understanding of structural design and its basic principles
- A good grasp of geotechnical design and its basic principles
- Experience in using finite element structural analysis packages
- Ability in the preparation of designs, calculations, specifications and reports
- The willingness to undertake site work including initial feasibility assessment, site inspection / survey and site supervision
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The willingness to become chartered and an interest in career progression within the business
As a small specialised consultancy, we offer early responsibility, direct client exposure and the chance to see projects through from concept to completion.
Whether inspecting a remote harbour, designing coastal infrastructure, supporting a bridge scheme or undertaking surveys along Scotland’s coast, you’ll develop practical engineering skills that few graduate roles can match.
At Wallace Stone, you won’t be one of hundreds of graduates, you’ll become an integral member of our team from day one.
We offer
- Exposure to a diverse portfolio of marine and civil engineering projects across Scotland.
- Early responsibility and meaningful involvement in project delivery.
- Opportunities for site visits and practical engineering experience.
- A collaborative and supportive working environment.
- Direct mentorship from experienced Chartered Engineers and support towards ICE Chartership via Mentor Supported Training Agreement.
- Competitive Salary and Benefits package including Private Healthcare and Pension Scheme.
