An established manufacturing organisation is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary design function covering a diverse range of engineered products and equipment. This is a senior leadership role where you will guide a growing design team, drive innovation, enhance production efficiency, and ensure projects meet strict technical, quality, safety, and legislative standards. The role suits a highly organised engineering professional with strong team leadership capability and a passion for continuous improvement.
Duties
- Lead and develop a multi-department design team, ensuring clarity of scope, timelines, and project deliverables.
- Liaise closely with customers to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
- Analyse and improve existing production and design processes to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Oversee and contribute to R&D activities, generating new concepts, products, and design improvements.
- Review and approve technical drawings and design outputs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate closely with production, management, and cross-functional teams to align on project scope, budgets, and schedules.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including user manuals and historical revisions.
- Ensure all equipment and designs comply with relevant legislation and standards, including CE marking requirements.
- Manage project budgets, ensuring R&D activities are properly scoped and costed.
- Uphold ISO 9001 standards and support audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Recruit, mentor, train, and support team members, fostering best practice, innovation, and high performance.
- Carry out other responsibilities as required to support the wider engineering and production function.
Criteria
- Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Proven experience leading engineering or design teams within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering legislation, and CE/standards compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high levels of accuracy and quality.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both customers and internal stakeholders.
- Experience in process improvement, R&D, and driving innovation.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets and assess project viability.
