Overview Of Role
The Senior Product Owner will form part of Digital Delivery and be mandated to specific business areas to work alongside business owners to interpret their product needs and design roadmaps and backlogs and manage the technological output in collaboration with teams, so that the business grows and continues to deliver excellent products and services to clients in an ever-evolving world. This role requires strong expertise in agile product ownership combined with business analysis and process engineering skills, with a focus on delivering value in complex software development projects within the financial services industry.
Duties, Responsibilities & Person Specification
- Act as the primary conduit between business stakeholders, customers, and agile teams to define and prioritize the program backlog in alignment with SAFe and Scrum practices.
- Develop and communicate a clear product vision and roadmap that supports strategic business objectives and customer needs on behalf of the relevant business owners.
- Lead the planning, grooming, and prioritization of features, user stories and acceptance criteria to maximize product value and ensure timely delivery.
- Collaborate closely with Delivery, Architecture, Engineering, and Agile Teams to refine backlogs, guide the analysis process and ensure business requirements are well interpreted.
- Conduct detailed business analysis and process engineering to translate business requirements into well-defined, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Continuously assess product performance, customer feedback, and market trends to make data-driven decisions and adjustments.
- Support compliance and regulatory requirements relevant to financial services through product design and delivery.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by promoting lean thinking and problem-solving exercise within teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring transparency, trust, and collaboration.
- Mentor and coach junior Product Owners and team members in lean thinking and value creation.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Deep understanding and practical experience of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Scrum methodologies, including backlog management, PI planning, and agile metrics.
- Proficiency in business analysis and process engineering techniques, i.e. requirements elicitation, process mapping, gap analysis, and workflow optimization.
- Extensive experience working on software development projects, preferably within financial services or regulated industries.
- Design Thinking experience (UX, UI and CX) and wireframe/prototyping creation skills/experience and experience in applying it incrementally.
- Strong understanding of financial services products, compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and data driven decision making.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of managing diverse teams and multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to influence and foster collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Experience with product management tools (e.g., ADO, Miro) and software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Relevant qualifications such as Certified SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM), Scrum Product Owner, Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Black Belt Lean Six Sigma.
