Walkers Chocolates is looking for a proactive and skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team at our Birmingham site. This is a hands-on role where you'll play a critical part in ensuring all machinery and facilities operate efficiently, minimising downtime and supporting continuous production. You'll work closely with production teams to diagnose, repair, and prevent equipment issues helping us deliver against key business targets.
As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for both reactive and planned maintenance across site, ensuring machinery is operating at optimal performance. You will support production by quickly responding to breakdowns, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions, while also carrying out preventative maintenance during non-production hours.
- Carry out reactive maintenance to minimise downtime and keep production lines running
- Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities
- Log all maintenance work, breakdowns, and actions accurately within systems
- Work closely with production teams, line supervisors, and team leaders to ensure effective communication
- Attend daily operational and planning meetings
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce waste
- Follow internal processes including 5S, BDA analysis, defect database, and Kaizen initiatives
- Ensure all activities align with food safety, quality, and compliance standards (GMP)

- Previous experience in a hands-on maintenance engineering role
- Electrical or mechanical qualifications (or equivalent)
- Experience working with breakdowns and preventative maintenance systems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering diagrams
- Experience working on high-speed packaging machinery
- FMCG or food manufacturing background
- Knowledge of PLC systems
- Work within a fast-paced, high-performing manufacturing environment
