Are you a Quantity Surveyor looking to work on highly regulated, long-term defence programmes with a contractor known for quality, discretion, and technical capability? I’m recruiting on behalf of a well-established regional construction business with a strong presence in the defence sector. Based in Bristol, the business delivers a range of secure and sensitive projects across the South West for long-standing public-sector and MOD-aligned clients. With a robust pipeline of work and repeat frameworks in place, this is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to build long-term career stability while working on projects of national importance.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial delivery of multiple defence-related construction projects, working closely with project teams to ensure robust cost control, contractual compliance, and value-for-money delivery. Projects typically include new build, refurbishment, and upgrade works within secure environments, often under NEC or bespoke defence contracts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cost management and commercial reporting across defence projects
  • Procurement and management of subcontractor packages
  • Valuations, variations, and change control
  • Assisting with cost forecasting, final accounts, and risk management
  • Ensuring contractual and procedural compliance within secure frameworks
  • Working closely with Project Managers and site teams to support successful delivery

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor within a main contracting environment
  • Strong understanding of construction cost management and procurement
  • Experience working under NEC contracts (desirable)
  • Comfortable operating within regulated or secure environments
  • Strong attention to detail, professionalism, and discretion
  • Based in or commutable to Bristol and the wider South West

Please note: due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible for security clearance.

  • Competitive salary + comprehensive package
  • Long-term, stable pipeline of defence work
  • Opportunity to work on secure projects of national importance
  • Supportive, collaborative regional business with strong retention
  • Clear pathways for progression to Senior Quantity Surveyor and beyond
