Building Surveyor – 12-Month Fixed Term Contract
South West (Flexible – travel required)

We’re currently working with a well-established housing association seeking a Building Surveyor to oversee one-off projects and leasehold works across the South West, including Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for managing a varied workload of building projects, using your technical expertise to identify defects, specify remedial works and ensure delivery to quality, cost and programme targets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking site inspections and surveys to identify required works
- Producing work schedules and specifications for open-market tendering
- Weekly site inspections and H&S checks in line with CDM duties
- Chairing and attending contractor progress meetings
- Quality control inspections at key project milestones
- Contract administration, including final accounts, valuations and CVIs
- Providing technical advice and practical solutions to building defects
About You
- HNC (or higher) qualification in Building Construction / Surveying
- Proven experience in a Building Surveyor role within housing, construction or property
- Strong knowledge of building fabrics, construction methods and defect diagnosis
- Experience supervising multi-trade contracts from inception to completion
- Confident in specification writing and contract management
- Solid understanding of H&S legislation and CDM regulations
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and budgets
- IT-literate (MS Office, tablets/iPads, and internal systems)
- Strong communicator, able to adapt your style for contractors, clients and residents
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential due to the regional nature of the role.
