Walker & Sloan are working with an outstanding regional construction contractor to recruit a Technical Manager with a strong electrical bias to support the delivery of complex defence and data centre projects across the South of England. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly respected contractor operating within some of the UK's most technically demanding sectors. With a growing pipeline of secured work across mission-critical and MOD projects, the business is seeking an experienced technical professional who can help drive design excellence, technical compliance, and successful project delivery.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role across both pre-construction and live project environments, ensuring that complex building services and electrical systems are effectively coordinated, managed, and delivered.

The Role

As Technical Manager, you will take ownership of the technical design process across a portfolio of defence and data centre projects, with a particular focus on electrical systems, MEP coordination, and technical compliance. Working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and operational teams, you'll provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring designs are coordinated, buildable, compliant, and aligned with programme objectives. This role offers exposure to some of the most technically advanced construction projects currently being delivered within the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the technical design process from pre-construction through to project completion
  • Leading the coordination of electrical and MEP design packages
  • Reviewing consultant and subcontractor design information for compliance, quality, and buildability
  • Supporting technical workshops, design reviews, and value engineering exercises
  • Managing technical risks, design changes, and project compliance requirements
  • Ensuring projects meet MOD, mission-critical, and industry-specific standards
  • Working closely with project delivery teams to support programme and construction objectives
  • Coordinating information flow between clients, consultants, and specialist subcontractors
  • Supporting commissioning strategies and technical handover processes

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience as a Technical Manager, Design Manager, or Building Services Manager within construction
  • Strong electrical bias with a sound understanding of MEP integration and building services systems
  • Experience delivering complex projects such as data centres, defence facilities, life sciences, healthcare, or other highly serviced buildings
  • Background working for a main contractor, specialist contractor, or consultancy environment
  • Excellent technical, organisational, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple design packages simultaneously within fast-paced project environments
  • Strong understanding of current building regulations, technical standards, and construction methodologies
