Walker & Sloan are working with an outstanding regional construction contractor to recruit a Technical Design Manager with a strong electrical bias to support the delivery of complex defence and data centre projects across the South of England. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong construction professional to join a highly respected business operating within some of the UK’s most demanding and secure project environments.
The successful candidate will play a key role within the pre-construction and delivery teams, helping drive technical coordination, design management, and stakeholder collaboration across highly serviced, mission-critical schemes.
The RoleAs Technical Design Manager, you will take responsibility for managing and coordinating the technical design process across complex defence and data centre developments, with a particular focus on electrical systems and MEP integration. Working closely with consultants, subcontractors, operational teams, and clients, you’ll ensure designs are technically compliant, fully coordinated, and aligned with programme and delivery objectives. This role will suit someone with strong technical knowledge who enjoys working within fast-paced, technically challenging construction environments.
Key Responsibilities- Managing the technical design process from pre-construction through to project delivery
- Coordinating electrical design elements across complex building services packages
- Reviewing consultant and subcontractor design information for compliance, buildability, and coordination
- Supporting design workshops, technical reviews, and client meetings
- Working closely with operational and commercial teams to ensure efficient project delivery
- Managing design risk, technical queries, and change control processes
- Ensuring compliance with defence, mission-critical, and regulatory standards
- Supporting programme management through timely design coordination and information release
- Liaising with clients, consultants, supply-chain partners, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Previous experience within a Design Manager or Technical Design Manager role within construction
- Strong electrical or MEP bias with good technical understanding of building services integration
- Experience delivering complex projects such as data centres, defence, healthcare, or other highly serviced technical buildings
- Background working for a main contractor or specialist contractor environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple technical packages within fast-paced project environments
- Organised, proactive, and commercially aware approach
