Walker & Sloan are working with an outstanding regional construction contractor to recruit an MEP Managing Estimator to support the continued growth of their mission‑critical and defence project portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected contractor delivering some of the UK's most technically complex projects across the MOD, data centre, and secure infrastructure sectors.
As the business continues to secure major project wins, they are looking for an experienced MEP estimating professional who can lead the commercial and technical assessment of building services packages, while helping shape winning bid strategies on high‑value schemes. This is a pivotal position within the pre‑construction team, offering significant influence across project selection, bid development, and business growth.
The Role
As MEP Managing Estimator, you will lead the estimating function for all mechanical and electrical packages across a portfolio of complex projects. Working closely with the Pre‑Construction Director, Technical Managers, Commercial Teams, and Operational Leadership, you will be responsible for producing robust cost plans, managing tender submissions, and ensuring commercially competitive bids are developed in line with the company's growth objectives. You will play a key role in identifying opportunities, managing risk, engaging specialist supply‑chain partners, and supporting successful project conversion from tender stage through to contract award.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the preparation of MEP estimates for major defence and data centre projects
- Managing the full estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical information to develop accurate cost plans
- Engaging and managing specialist MEP subcontractors throughout the tender process
- Producing detailed pricing strategies and commercial submissions
- Identifying risks, opportunities, value engineering solutions, and cost‑saving initiatives
- Supporting bid presentations, client meetings, and tender interviews
- Working closely with design and technical teams to ensure buildable and commercially viable solutions
- Providing commercial support during project handover to delivery teams
- Mentoring and developing junior estimating professionals where required
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience as a Senior MEP Estimator, Managing Estimator, or Pre‑Construction Manager within a construction environment
- Strong background pricing complex MEP packages on major projects
- Experience within sectors such as data centres, defence, healthcare, life sciences, energy, or other technically demanding environments
- Excellent understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems
- Strong commercial awareness and risk management capability
- Experience managing supply‑chain engagement and subcontractor procurement during tender stages
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across pre‑construction, technical, commercial, and operational teams
