Overview
Base pay range: $16.50/hr – $20.00/hr. Our pharmacy technician positions have moved toward a patient-centric model. As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you’ll be front and center—interacting with customers and developing strong patient relationships. Walgreens provides tools and support, including the latest technology, to help you grow your career. The program is an earn‑while‑you‑learn apprenticeship that guides you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and maintains the high skill level required in the pharmacy care industry.
Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist with and coach technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.
- Deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience by engaging with customers and patients, answering questions, and resolving issues.
- Develop strong relationships with customers and share customer service best practices with team members.
- Under pharmacist supervision, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy; review and comply with the Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying accuracy, and checking for interactions; assist with scheduling and workflow management.
- Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies regarding pharmacy error handling and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Register and handle related sales on the assigned cash register and assist customers in locating products; handle non‑personal calls to physicians as needed.
- Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third‑party prescription services and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist with inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, storing pharmaceuticals, and maintaining asset protection practices.
- May assist pharmacists in clinical services, including collection and labeling of samples, and coordinate clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local medical professionals to support growth opportunities.
- Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly; comply with company policies and maintain professional relationships with coworkers.
- Complete specials assignments and other tasks as needed.
Training & Personal Development
- Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated program or state requirements; certification may be required for promotion to senior technician.
- Attend training, acquire continuing education credits, and stay informed about healthcare and pharmacy developments.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six months of experience in a retail environment (preferred).
- Prior work experience with Walgreens (preferred).
- Good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
- Good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control (preferred).
- PTCB certification (preferred).
