Job Overview

We are a gas distribution business that services the gas infrastructure across Wales and the south‑west of England. We serve our customers and communities with safe, reliable and affordable energy services whilst investing to create a sustainable future to deliver our carbon‑free vision for 2050. We are looking for an Industrial Electrical and/or Instrumentation Network Technician to undertake all aspects of installation, commissioning, operation, repair and maintenance work on LV systems, standby generators, transformers, motors, actuators and general instrumentation plant such as various safety, control and measurement devices. You will support the First Line Manager by carrying out maintenance, repair and replacement of Electrical & Instrumentation systems on gas pressure control installations and associated equipment, completing records to a high standard and meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance work on electrical and instrumentation equipment, complete installation work and maintain systems whilst keeping up to date with technical advances, industry standards and future developments.
  • Prepare reports and provide technical information and guidance to WWU management and third‑party customers.
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities to satisfy legislative requirements.
  • Oversee activities carried out by contractors/direct labour, where necessary.
  • Work with other WWU departments in achieving shared goals.

Requirements

  • Be qualified to electrician (ie. NVQ Level 3) standard or equivalent (NVQ Level 3, 18th edition, 2391 or equivalent).
  • Preferable with Compex EX01, EX02, EX03, EX04 and an instrumentation background.
  • Hold a full UK Driving Licence.
  • Participation in a 24/7 standby rota which includes standby payments.
  • Have the energy to work in all weather conditions.
  • Be able to work well as part of a team and operate as a team leader.
  • Have working knowledge of appropriate codes of practice, engineering instructions, safety and statutory regulations.
  • Sound IT skills for day‑to‑day applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
