What we’re looking for?

We’re looking for a Trainee Technician to join our Capital Delivery department.

The purpose of the job is to contribute to a cost effective and customer focused, reliable gas service by carrying out routine and non-routine work across the network as an individual or as a team leader.

The successful candidate will provide the necessary technical support to ensure the safe, efficient and cost-effective development and maintenance of the transportation system.

We’ll trust you to

  • Carry out all work on the Network safely and cost effectively, keeping up to date with current technical and industry standards and future developments using individual specialist skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities to satisfy Pressure management –pipelines within WWU, third party and legislative requirements
  • Undertake and oversee all installation, commissioning, maintenance, validation, modification, repair of the LTS and IP Pipelines, including calibration work in accordance with appropriate policies, procedures and statutory requirements to ensure optimum technical performance and reliability of equipment
  • Supervise Direct Labour and Contract teams, ensuring the business objectives of high productivity and efficient work practices through the effective management and utilisation of workforce and assets is achieved

You’ll need to have

  • An understanding of on-site health and safety and all aspects of gas safety
  • An understanding of the Local Transmission and Distribution gas supply network and the behaviour of various gases
  • Knowledge of New Roads and Streetworks Act activities
  • Ability to communicate with fellow workers, management, public officials, site managers and the general public in order to carry out work, deal with routine complaints and ensure that we satisfy our customers and the general public
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • BTEC National certificate or NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Site Supervisor Safety Training
  • Deep Excavation & Confined spaces
  • Vehicle Marshalling
  • Cat & Genny Sigma training
  • DCVG trained
  • Current attenuation trained
  • Current drain test trained
  • CIP survey and Pearson survey trained
