We have an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability & Wellbeing Support Officer to make a real difference to people’s lives, homes and communities across Wales. Following a review of Housing Support Grant (HSG) funding for 2026–27, Wrexham County Borough Council has provided funding to Wales & West Housing to pilot this role as part of its Rapid Rehousing approach and in preparation for the forthcoming Homelessness and Social Housing Allocation (Wales) Act 2026. This 12-month fixed term role will focus on supporting individuals who have experienced homelessness and are moving into tenancies through the nomination process, helping them sustain their homes, build stability and achieve positive long‑term outcomes. The role is based in Wrexham, North Wales.

We are looking for a compassionate and proactive individual who is passionate about making a real difference to people’s lives, homes and communities. You will have experience of working with individuals using a trauma‑informed approach and be able to build trust quickly through strong listening and communication skills. Understanding what matters most to each person will be at the heart of how you work, enabling you to provide meaningful and personalised support. You will be confident working collaboratively with a range of partners, including local authorities, support agencies and community organisations, ensuring people receive the right support at the right time. Experience within housing, support services or a similar environment will help you succeed, alongside a proven ability to access appropriate services and work effectively within a multi‑agency setting. A strong commitment to equality, inclusion and delivering excellent, customer‑focused services is essential. The role requires a genuine passion for empowering residents to live independently and sustain their tenancies, alongside an understanding of the challenges faced by those at risk of homelessness. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are also required.

As a Sustainability & Wellbeing Support Officer, the role plays a key part in supporting individuals and families as they move into and sustain their tenancies. Working closely with applicants from the earliest stage in the process, it focuses on helping people transition successfully into their new homes and ensuring the right support is in place from the beginning and throughout their tenancy. A person‑centred approach sits at the heart of the role, working directly with residents to understand their circumstances and develop tailored action plans that reflect what matters most to them. By building positive, trusting relationships, the role enables people to engage with support services, develop independence and build the skills needed to live well in their homes. Partnership working is central, with close collaboration across local authority teams, statutory services, voluntary organisations and community groups to ensure a coordinated approach to support. The role also involves proactively identifying risks to tenancies, intervening early where concerns arise, and supporting residents to understand their rights and responsibilities. Alongside this, accurate records are maintained, progress is monitored and outcomes are reported to demonstrate impact. Working in a trauma‑informed and strengths‑based way, the focus remains on helping individuals build sustainable support networks and maintain stable, successful tenancies.
