The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to make a real difference to the lives of our residents, our staff and our communities across Wales. As an Assistant Health & Safety Officer you will support our Health & Safety Officers and the organisation to deliver services safely and efficiently, providing professional support to staff at all levels. The role can be based at any of our offices in the South (Cardiff), North (Ewloe) or West (Newcastle Emlyn) regions, with flexibility in choosing the most suitable base location while ensuring strong links with the wider Building Safety Team. Regular travel between offices may be required at times, but your main working location can be aligned to the area that works best for you.

What you will be doing?

  • You will play a key role as part of our Health and Safety team, acting as a first point of contact for health and safety queries and providing practical advice and guidance to colleagues, residents and external partners.
  • You will support the delivery of health and safety action plans, investigate accidents and incidents, contribute to the development of initiatives that promote a positive safety culture, coordinate and deliver training, carry out site inspections, maintain accurate records and systems, and ensure policies, procedures and compliance requirements are kept up to date.
  • Working closely with colleagues across different departments, you will help embed effective health and safety practices in everything we do.

Who we are looking for?

We are looking for an organised and proactive individual with strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to promoting health and safety. You will hold a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) and have experience in a health and safety environment, with a strong customer focus and an empathetic approach to working with others. You should be confident managing a varied workload in a busy environment, have a keen eye for detail, and be able to provide clear and practical advice. You will thrive working both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a collaborative approach and the confidence to build positive working relationships across the organisation. A willingness to learn and develop professionally is essential, and you will bring enthusiasm and a commitment to continuous improvement, alongside strong communication and presentation skills.
