Locum Consultant Paediatric Radiologist

NHS Medical & Dental: Locum Consultant

Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic radiologist with specialist training in paediatric radiology to join our team of 8. Initially, the position will be a locum role, with a substantive consultant post available from May 2025. The two positions are expected to run consecutively.

You will have sub-specialist training in paediatric radiology from a recognised tertiary paediatric centre. Areas of sub-specialisation are open to discussion, but applicants interested in paediatric neuroradiology should demonstrate extended specialist training (preferably at fellowship level).

The position is full-time, but if a consultant is unable to work full-time, we will consider flexible arrangements. In such cases, job content adjustments will be discussed individually with the Trust and Consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Team Lead, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Work alongside Consultant colleagues at SCFT to provide daytime and on-call specialist Imaging Services at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Jessop Wing Special Care Baby Unit (Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – STHFT).
  2. Services will include general paediatric radiology – plain film, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and fluoroscopy.
  3. The South Yorkshire training scheme (STHFT) offers first on-call registrar cover for general paediatric imaging (e.g., CT and ultrasound). Consultants will cover first on-call for fluoroscopic studies, imaging of inflicted injury, MRI, and neonatal imaging.
  4. On-call commitment: 1 in 7.
  5. Weeknight on-call: 5 pm to 9 am the following morning.
  6. Weekend on-call: 5 pm Friday to 9 am Monday.
  7. The post may include one day of off-site work in a District General Hospital approximately every 4 weeks.
