Location: West Midlands

Hours: Full-time, including out-of-hours and weekend work for Duty Solicitor rota and police station representation (We will also consider applications from candidates seeking part-time hours).

NBB Waldrons Solicitors is looking for a dedicated and motivated Criminal Lawyer to join our Criminal Defence team based in the West Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity for either an experienced qualified solicitor who can hit the ground running, or a newly qualified or nearly qualified solicitor with a genuine passion for criminal law and a desire to develop their career within a supportive and established team. The role offers exposure to a broad range of criminal defence work, including privately funded matters, institutional client work and legal aid cases. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates interested in working towards Duty Solicitor accreditation, with training and mentorship available for the right individual.

About the Role

  • Managing a varied and challenging caseload of criminal defence matters
  • Advising and representing clients across privately funded, institutional and legal aid work
  • Representing clients at police stations and Magistrates Courts
  • Conducting advocacy including bail applications, case management hearings and trials
  • Participating in the Duty Solicitor rota, including out-of-hours and weekend work
  • Providing clear, practical and supportive legal advice to clients throughout their case
  • Building strong working relationships with clients, colleagues and external agencies
  • Maintaining high standards of client care and professional conduct at all times

About You

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, works well under pressure and is passionate about criminal defence work. The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor, Legal Executive or equivalent experience within criminal defence
  • Duty Solicitor accreditation, or a strong interest in working towards accreditation
  • Experience in police station representation and court advocacy, or a willingness to develop these skills
  • Strong organisational and litigation skills
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing positively as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and client care skills
  • A professional, proactive and resilient approach
